Community Relation Services

The UNLV Police Department emphasizes pro-active policing. Interactions between the department and the community we serve is encouraged at all levels.

PatchIncluded in this contract with the community is a wide range of activities. Most unusual may be the commitment to contribute to the university governance processes. The Director of Public Safety has been a member of the Faculty Senate and the past chair of the Classified Staff Council was a police officer for the department. In addition the Director sits on the Campus Planning Committee which allows Public Safety to have full input into safety considerations for all new campus projects.

The department is also involved in a number of community relations activities through the crime prevention office. Lectures are given to students, faculty and staff on a range of subjects including the prevention of sexual assault, robbery, theft and a seminar on gangs.

Our crime prevention unit has designed booklets for children and parents of children in our day care facility on crime related problems and gangs. Public safety participates with a number of administrative units on a yearly safety tour of the campus that checks such things as lighting levels, proper trimming of landscapes and other physical security concerns.

The department is also actively involved in doing security surveys of the campus buildings. Public Safety works closely with the student newspaper to publish crime summaries on a weekly basis. The on campus publication "Update" is also provided crime information which is published on a monthly basis.

In addition the department produces and distributes "Crime Alert Bulletins" to notify the campus community of specific crime problems in their area. We work closely with groups on campus such as Residential Life and the Women's center to facilitate programs for interested parties.

We are pleased to offer valuable news and information regarding our department to the UNLV community. Providing information about our mission and who we are helps familiarize our community members with their police department. Below you will find links to our department newsletter called, "The Police Blotter". Also, you will find the Administrative, Police, and Dispatch Organizational Charts   below if you would like to learn about the structure of our department
