Girls on Guard Self-Defense Course - CLASS IS FULL

We offer self-defense classes in order to provide women with the basic skills to escape an attacker and teach them how to avoid dangerous situations whenever possible. These classes are intended to help students to feel safer and better prepared on campus. Police Services’ “Girls on Guard” self defense classes are open to all students, faculty and staff.

In order to learn more and to participate in one of these sessions, please e-mail Sergeant Denise Murphy at denise.murphy@unlv.edu, or contact the Jean Nidetch Women’s Center at (702) 895-4475 for more information regarding classes. “Girls on Guard” self defense courses are scheduled upon request when participant interest is large enough to conduct a class so call today!

Did you know that some of the most popular items for thieves to steal on campus are laptop computers and other personal electronic devices? Thieves find the unattended electronic equipment of studying college students to be an easy crime of opportunity. The UNLV Department of Police Services would like to reduce the likelihood of this occurring on our campus, and that is why we have scheduled a property registration event for all members of the campus community.

The event will be held at the Lied Library lobby on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, September 3rd, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, September 4th, from 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, September 5th, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Registration is free and available for laptops, iPads, bicycles and any other items with serial numbers, so secure your property today!

Join UNLV Police Services for the 11th Annual Police Awareness Day

What is the 11th Annual Police Awareness Day?

     It is an event sponsored by the UNLV Department of Police Services that allows the campus community to personally meet the officers charged with keeping UNLV's campus safe.  Students, faculty, and staff get an opportunity to see the officers' equipment and vehicles, and UNLV's police officers get an open forum to speak to the public regarding the crime and safety concerns of members of the community.

What can you expect to see when you attend UNLV's Police Awareness Day?

  • Police Records & Property staff will provide information about the Lost & Found program.
  • Police officers will be publicly displaying the department's vehicles, motorcycles, and equipment.
  • Student Security Services staff will provide information about their program and after-hours escorts to vehicles.
  • Police officers and dispatchers will be available to answer your questions, handle your concerns, and give valuable crime prevention and safety advice.
  • The department will be available to register bicycles, laptops, I-Pads, and other personal belongings.
  • There will also be a variety of literature on both crime prevention and personal safety available for your interest.

UNLV Police Services will be sponsoring a blood drive with the American Red Cross on Wednesday, October 2nd from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The Red Cross Blood Mobile will be located next to the Recreation Center.

Students, faculty and staff are all welcome and appointments are not necessary, so make sure to stop by and donate!
