Homeland Security

The UNLV Police Department is committed to the safety and security of the campus community throughout the year. This task, however, has become even more challenging since the World Trade Center tragedy. The UNLV Police Department has risen to meet the new threats and remain prepared in the event of an emergency by developing and maintaining an Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

This standing body of decision makers is only a phone call away from gathering in a designated place to make critical decisions that will allow the University to transition back into a normal state following a critical incident.

In addition to the Emergency Operations Center, the UNLV Police Department also works closely with County, State, and Federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies on a continuous basis to also include the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF).

The close working relationship with Federal law enforcement has resulted in the UNLV Police Department being selected as one of only two locations in the Unites States to host the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (I.A.C.L.E.A.) Incident Command Strategies (ICS). For more information on this valuable training, please see below.

The program is funded by a grant from the Office for Domestic Preparedness, U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
