Police Patch

Founded as a police department in 1972, University Police Officers are Category One peace officers in the State of Nevada.

As a full service police department, the officers are required to graduate a 22 week 750 hour state Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) academy and 560 hours of field training to qualify as a University Police Officer I. After completing a one year probationary period, the officer may promote to a University Police Officer II and remain as a full-time University Police Officer.

Mission Statement

The University of Nevada Las Vegas Department of Public Safety is dedicated to providing excellence in protection and service to the University community. As law enforcement officers, we shall continuously endeavor to ensure a safe and secure environment conducive to a positive social and educational process.

Vision Statement

The vision of the University of Nevada Las Vegas Department of Public Safety is to become an exemplary model and recognized leader in higher education law enforcement by providing the public with quality police service and protection.

The administrative office responsible for police response, safety and security on the UNLV campus is the Department of Public Safety, reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs.

The Department of Public Safety Dispatch Center is physically located on East Harmon Avenue, just east of the Herman Westfall Business Services Building and across from the Federal Environmental Protection Agency. This is a central area of the University Campus easily accessible by both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. However, the Police Department Administration offices are located at 851 East Tropicana. This address is directly south of the Thomas & Mack Center and on the southeast corner of Swenson and Tropicana. Our address for all business and correspondence is listed below.
